Business Bridge to China
Business Bridge to China's mission statement is very practical
and very simple:
"To provide SMEs with those extra pairs of experienced hands
that will take much of the risk and much of the pain out of their
wish to improve profitability and reduce costs (both fixed and
variable) through the creation of reliable offshore sourcing capabilities".
Business Bridge to China is a division of Southdown Portfolio
Limited. This is a privately owned management consultancy founded
in 1992 by John Mott, its current Managing Director.
Business Bridge to China recognises that, in their quest
for more competitively sourced product, many large manufacturing
companies have already moved much of what was their UK production
to lower cost offshore locations - but that many smaller and medium
sized enterprises (SME's) have lacked either the courage, the management
time, and/or the skills to make such a radical change.
It also recognises that many companies have tried to make the change
without conducting the proper level of research into potential sources
and potential partners. As a consequence, given the huge differences
that still prevail between the cultures of East and West; many have
paid a high price for ventures that have failed.
To help them avoid similar pitfalls, Business Bridge to China
offers clients the benefit of the 20 years of hands-on experience
that John Mott has acquired in dealing with a wide variety of manufacturing
companies in countries throughout South East Asia.
Given the sheer size, strength and potential of the Chinese economy,
it is not surprising that the majority of his current activities
are focussed on that country.
To date John Mott has actively sourced a wide range of products
from China. These include sporting goods, sports footwear, fashion
clothing, furniture, household textiles, and industrial filters
- a number of them via joint ventures negotiated by John himself.
Most of the products referred to above have been sourced for supply
to major multiple retailers in the UK - so in looking for sources
of manufacture and establishing supply chains Business Bridge
to China is fully aware of the very demanding nature of today's
major customers in respect of price, quality, delivery and reliability.
Business Bridge to China's aim is to provide those extra
pairs of experienced hands that will take much of the risk and much
of the pain out of an SME client's wish to improve profitability
and reduce costs (both fixed and variable) through the creation
of reliable offshore sourcing capabilities.
In China, Business Bridge to China works through staff that
have been carefully selected for their commercial acumen and experience,
their understanding of the requirements of customers within major
Western economies (still a surprisingly scarce skill in China),
and their ability to speak and write good English.
Their work is actively supervised by John Mott during the course
of his frequent visits to the region.
Having agreed briefs with its clients that are simple but clear,
Business Bridge to China will provide:
- Clear recommendations regarding sources of supply and/or potential
business partners
- Fully costed pre production samples
- Help in contractual negotiations
- Effective supply chain management
